Hello Tomorrow!: Inside Apple TV+’s Emmy-nominated show open

Apple TV+’s Hello Tomorrow! is set in a retro-future world and centers around a group of traveling salesmen, who are hawking lunar timeshares. Billy Crudup stars as Jack, a salesman of great talent and ambition. His unshakeable faith in a brighter tomorrow inspires his coworkers and revitalizes his desperate customers, but threatens to leave him lost in the very dream that sustains him.

The show is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Design. Ronnie Koff (pictured) is a creative director, known for his work on Candy and Foundation. According to Koff, his team will typically pitch concepts for title sequence to the showrunner.

“If they like one, they pick the direction and we go with it,” says Koff. “What I love about this process is, we’re able to present ideas that we’re really passionate about that might be unexpected for the show itself. There’s something really cool about having an outsider’s take, but encapsulating what the show is about.”

As a designer and director, Koff says they typically use Maxon Cinema 4D and Side FX Houdini for title sequences, as well as Adobe’s After Effects.

“Because this title sequence has a singular camera move, the editorial process was about locking in the story beats that we could continuously move to within a :60 title.”

The Emmy nomination is an “honor,” says Koff, “but it’s not the end. It just means that next year, I have to outdo myself.”
