LAS VEGAS — SMPTE (www.smpte.org), which changed the name of the Digital Cinema Summit to DCS 2011 to better reflect how technologies are improving and facilitating different areas of media, will present educational sessions ranging from broadband and broadcast, to digital cinema. DCS 2011 will be held in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center in rooms S222 and S223.
One of this year’s sessions, dubbed “Faster & Better Pixels,” will look at higher frame rates and expanded bit depth and color gamuts. The session will look at the creative, technical, and practical considerations of moving to higher production resolutions, including 4K, 8K, and beyond.
Anticipating the growing trend for stereo 3D content, DCS 2011 will feature “A Day of 3D,” in which feature directors such as Doug Trumbull, Eric Brevig, and Rob Legato, as well as broadcasters that include BSkyB and ESPN, will look at acquisition, production, and display workflows, as well as share practical experiences and lessons learned.
The “What’s Next” session will look at three trends that the industry can expect to see over the next three years. Sony Pictures Technologies president Chris Cookson, Arlen Communications president Gary Arlen will discuss key trends and lend perspective on where they see the business of motion imagery going.
