LAS VEGAS – Red Giant Software (www.redgiantsoftware.com), based in San Francisco, is showing three new products at NAB: Primatte Keyer 4, Instant HD Pro and Radium Glow.
Primatte Keyer Pro 4 is a greenscreen tool that extracts keys from any color background quickly and easily. Version 4, which works with After Effects, Avid and now Final Cut Pro, offers speed enhancements in addition to new features, including the easy-to-use auto setup, which creates an almost-perfect key with one click. There are also features that allow the tool to overcome keying challenges such as uneven lighting, compression artifacts, subtle shadows and edge light contamination. The tool works right on the timeline.
Instant HD Pro is a plug-in that delivers high quality conversion of SD to HD. Its advanced toolset offers sharp, motion-compensated de-interlacing and de-noising; advanced pan and scan; and a super-resolution algorithm for providing actual resolution enhancement in an editing application.
Super-resolution is a technique for deriving and improving resolution from multiple frames of video. This method compares each pixel over successive frames, determining true edges in order to deliver sharper details and super-crisp results. And, thanks to multi-core optimizations on Intel-based platforms, the tool can render in just over a second per frame on the fastest machines.
Radium Glow is a package of four plug-ins that create glowing areas in an image based on the brightest parts of the frame. The four plug-ins are Glow EZ, a simple plug-in with limited controls; Glow, with advanced controls and masking; Glow Edge, for creating glows only on the edges of an image or around text; and Glow Depth, which will create the Glow based on a secondary z-depth or depth buffer layer.
All four plug-ins are planned for Adobe After Effects (7.0, CS3), Premiere Pro (2.0, CS3), Final Cut Pro 6.0, Motion 3.0 and Avid AVX 2 systems. The product will support Mac OS X 10.4.11, 10.5.x, Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista (32- and 64-bit).
All the plug-ins support 8-, 16- and 32-bit rendering as available in the host application. These plug-ins are part of the new Radium line created by Red Giant Software and will appear under the Radium category or menu item in the effects options of the host apps.
