With facilities in London, Vancouver, Montreal, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Paris, Bangalore and Shanghai, Post editors recently headed downtown to visit MPC’s New York City studio, where the team — headed up by Justin Brukman (managing director), Camila De Biaggi (executive producer) and Amanda Libotte (director of operations) — completes a range of commercial and broadcast work, as well as special VR and creative projects.

Spread out over three floors, the New York studio was established six years ago to provide VFX, finishing and color grading for such clients as Kate Spade New York, Mercedes and a number of Super Bowl spots, as well as music videos and art films. According to De Biaggi, because of the studio’s success in commercial work, it allows the team the flexibility to also take on special and creative projects, such as music videos and art films. The studio has also recently expanded its range of services by adding a virtual reality division — MPC VR — about a year ago, headed up by Tim Dillon as executive producer for VR.
While on-site, we had a chance to sample an upcoming VR project for a recording artist. For projects, the 3D team is relying predominantly on such tools as Maya and Houdini, Nuke and Flame for compositing and Arnold for rendering. Color grading is completed in Baselight. In all, the studios are connected and networked through an integrated production pipeline, allowing the team of creatives to work closely, share assets and technologies, and also work remotely.
