NEW YORK – Rhinoceros Visual Effects & Design (www.rhinofx.tv) in New York helped production company Sentimental Films show the sports car that is inside the Mazda minivan in the spot Illusions out of Doner, Southfield, MI. As the gray Mazda MPV winds along a scenic road, it repeatedly passes behind trees and falling water, where brief glimpses of the sporty red Miata emerges, thus conveying that the minivan handles like a sports cars.
Rhinoceros’ Inferno designer/partner Vico Sharabani says the look was achieved through photogametry in which the scenes were shot with still cameras from different angles. Then a CG model of the car is built and the still frames are laid on that model. The sequential placement of the stills enabled them to build a virtual camera move. The photogametry was realized in Discreet’s Inferno.
