Save Ferris, the Ska/punk band from Southern California, recently released a new music video to coincide with their Spring 2025 Tour. Get Dancing takes on a guerrilla style, with frontwoman Monique Powell performing the track at Venice Beach, while locals go about their business around her. As the track plays out, various friends join Powell, one by one, supporting her dance moves and playful energy.
Kimmet says the weather — slightly overcast — turned out to be perfect for the shoot, acting like a big silk screen in front of the sun. The video was captured using a set of Canon 5D Mark IV cameras.
“They are really good cameras to use for 4K quality, with interchangeable lenses,” he notes. Kimmet performed the edit himself, using Adobe Premiere Pro on a 2019 Apple Mac Pro.
“The real challenge for the shoot was primarily shooting on Venice Beach without city permits,” he reveals. “It really made for quite a challenging shoot, just being quite nervous the whole time with the realization that at any moment, police could show up and shut us down, not to mention store and stall owners that don’t want to be filmed. One workaround with that was, we had a few local friends in Venice that knew most of the stall owners and seemed to be able to smooth things over. All in all, it was quite a good shoot!”
