LOS ANGELES — Tool director/DP Robert Richardson took home the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for Martin Scorsese’s 3D film Hugo at last night’s 84th annual Academy Awards. Hugo marks Richardson’s third Oscar; he received Best Cinematography awards for Scorsese’s The Aviator, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Oliver Stone’s JFK.
Richardson earned other Oscar nominations – all in the Best Cinematography category – for Inglourious Basterds, Snow Falling on Cedars, Born on the Fourth of July, and Platoon. He is currently wrapping production on Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film Django Unchained.
