LOS ANGELES — The American Cinema Editors (ACE) celebrated their artform once again on February 7 with a lively awards dinner that honored legendary editors Richard Halsey, ACE; Robert C. Jones; and Randy Roberts ACE. The editors of television’s Breaking Bad and the feature films Captain Phillips, American Hustle, and Frozen were also honored by their peers.
But one of the most poignant moments of the evening came when director Paul Greengrass was given the prestigious ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year award by Tom Hanks, the star of his new film, Captain Phillips, and then spoke endearingly about the collaborative relationship he has formed with his longtime editor and friend, Christopher Rouse, ACE, who cut that picture, calling him a “custodian” of his filmmaking work, among other accolades.
Moments after he finished accepting the award, Greengrass paused to speak backstage with Post contributing editor Michael Goldman about that collaborative relationship with Rouse, and as you can hear in THIS CLIP from that moment, they were interrupted a few minutes later when Greengrass was suddenly informed that Rouse had just won the Best Edited Feature Eddie in the dramatic film category from his ACE colleagues for his work on Captain Phillips.

Moments after accepting his Eddie award from actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Rouse joined the festivities backstage and also spoke with Michael Goldman about working with Greengrass and the signature editing style he and his good friend have carved out on several movies in recent years.
