Outlook: Embracing AI & taking on higher-value roles

As we look toward 2025, the post production industry will continue evolving, driven by new technologies, emerging skills, shifting audience behaviors and economic pressures. To stay ahead, as professionals, we must adapt with open minds, mastering new technologies, honing our creative skills and staying true to the unique power we bring to our work — our talents, inspirations and experiences.

AI, often seen as a wolf in sheep's clothing, sparked panic across the creative community, leaving many to question the future of a generation that dedicated itself to learning, honing and mastering their craft. Pandora's box has been opened and there’s no turning back. However, looking at the AI advancements and technologies being embraced by our peers reveals a picture that is far less bleak. Many editors already use AI for tasks like footage organization, metadata tagging, transcribing interviews and color matching — tasks AI can perform in minutes. This allows editors to focus on crafting compelling narratives and visuals. Editors who adapt will find themselves in higher-value roles, shaping creative strategies and working more closely with directors, clients and other creatives.

Beyond technology, industry mergers are reshaping client expectations. Companies will increasingly seek partners that offer personalized service and creative insight. Success will belong to those who combine tailored, flexible creative services with the care, expertise and innovation of seasoned post production teams, remaining indispensable in a constantly shifting landscape.
