TEWKSBURY, MA - Avid brought its new Symphony Nitris (www.avid.com/symphonynitris) universal mastering system to the NAB Post+ show in New York last week. The nonlinear editing system is expected to ship in December and allows users to work with standard definition, compressed high definition and uncompressed high definition content. The system is based on an HP xw8200 workstation with dual 3.4GHz processors, along with Avid’s DNA hardware, and is capable of playing back two 10-bit HD streams in realtime.
Symphony Nitris includes Avid’s SteadyGlide technology for motion tracking, providing editors with tools to stabilize shaky shots while preserving desired camera motions, such as pans and tilts. The system’s 16-bit SpectraMatte tool provides users with powerful chroma keying capabilities.
Avid reps say a turnkey system will be priced at $89,995, which includes storage.
