SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Syntrillium Software (www.syntrillium.com) has upgraded its PC-based Cool Edit Pro program to Version 2.1, adding 5.1 functionality as well as Windows Media 9 support. The upgrade to the release also brings improved noise reduction capabilities as well as support for Mackie and TASCAM hardware controllers.
With the new multichannel encoder, users can create a surround sound mix by taking the mix from Cool Edit Pro's multitrack view and panning the tracks and busses for surround. Users can preview the surround mix on any sound card that has a DirectSound multichannel driver, and export the mix as a single 5.1 WMA file as one interleaved six-channel WAV file or six individual mono wave files.
The WMA 9 support allows for sample rates up to 96kHz, bit rates of up to 24, and data rates up to 440kbps. It also facilitates lossless compression. In addition to support of its Red Rover USB control, Cool Edit Pro now supports Mackie Control, TASCAM US-224 and Event Ezbus. The company is offering a SDK so other hardware manufacturers can include Cool Edit Pro control in their products.
