AUDIOENGINE MIXES HSBC'S 'COMMUTER'

NEW YORK - AudioEngine engineer Hillary Kew recently completed the mix on a new, humorous spot for HSBC. Directed by Errol Morris and produced by Moxie Pictures Hollywood, "Commuter" begins with a shot of a snoozing Asian man and the voiceover, "In some Asian cities, it's okay to fall asleep on the shoulder of a stranger."

As the man leans over to rest on the shoulder beside him, it becomes clear that he is not in an Asian city - it's more likely New York. His surprised, tough-looking neighbor decides to follow suit and rests his head on the young woman beside him. The voiceover adds, "we can always adapt," underscoring the global bank's understanding of the importance of local knowledge.

The spot JWT-conceived spot concludes with a map illustrating HSBC's 9,800 worldwide branches, 380 of which are in New York.

The spot's original track, created by Lou King of NYC's Big Foote Music combines light piano with an eerie vibe.

  • AudioEngine's Kew mixed the project in Pro Tools with Kelly Harnett assisting. The :30 commercial was edited by Marc Langley and Dan Maloney at The Whitehouse in New York.
