Nat Jenkins, a composer at Butter Music and Sound, recently completed production and post on a new music video for Mackenzie Shrieve. Good Lighting was shot back in October and released in early March. In the video, Mackenzie reminisces about a past relationship with a partner, played by actress Jane Bruce, who is now appearing in the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”
The video was shot at Dinner Party in Brooklyn, NY, which is decorated with an assortment of vintage furniture. Benji Berkowitz served as DP on the shoot, which took place on a single night. The project was captured using a Sony a7S III camera mounted at times on a gimbal and a tripod. The scenes with Bruce were shot first to accommodate her limited availability. Most of the lighting came from the venue’s candles and fixtures, though one egg-crate light was positioned outside a window for fill lighting.
Jenkins serves as Mackenzie's producer, and in the case of Good Lighting, co-wrote the track, as well as performed much of its instrumentation. He edited the video in Adobe Premiere. The color grade reflects the look of film and ties into 35mm photography Mackenzie had shot for promotional elements.
