Blackmagic releases Camera for Android

FREMONT, CA - Blackmagic Design (www.blackmagicdesign.com) has released Blackmagic Camera for Android, which adds digital film features and controls to Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones. Available for free from Google Play, Blackmagic Camera for Android is based on the same operating system as Blackmagic Design’s digital film cameras and gives Android content creators the same tools used by those creating feature films, television shows and documentaries. Users can adjust settings such as frame rate, shutter angle, white balance and ISO, all in a single tap. They can also record directly to Blackmagic Cloud in industry standard files up to 8K. Recording to Blackmagic Cloud Storage lets users collaborate on DaVinci Resolve projects with editors anywhere in the world.

The heads up display (HUD) shows status and record parameters, histogram, focus peaking, levels and frame guides. Auto focus is available by tapping the screen in the area users want to focus. Operators can shoot in 16:9 or vertical aspect ratios. They can also shoot 16:9 while holding the phone vertically. A built-in chat workspace allows Blackmagic Cloud project members to talk about shots and quickly share creative ideas, all without leaving the app. The media tab provides all the controls needed to browse or scrub clips for quick review, search and sort, and view the upload status of media. Users can also link to their DCIM folder and select clips to upload to the Blackmagic Cloud.

The Blackmagic Camera app for iPhone was launched last year.
