HBO’s The Jinx – Part Two is a six-episode continuation of the award-winning docu-series
The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. Directed by Andrew Jarecki,
Part Two continues the investigation, sharing previously hidden material, Durst's prison calls and interviews with witnesses who had not come forward until now.
Part Two is Emmy nominated for “Outstanding Picture Editing For A Nonfiction Program” (Chapter 9: Saving My Tears Until It’s Official - supervising editor Richard Hankin, editor Charles Olivier), “Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Series” and “Outstanding Writing For A Nonfiction Program” (writer Zac Stuart-Pontier).
“I’ve been collaborating with Andrew Jareki since 2000, when I started editing the film that became Capturing the Friedmans,” explains Richard Hankin. “I was the supervising editor on Season 1 of The Jinx and was thrilled to be part of the team on the second season. I primarily screened footage and cuts, and gave notes on Frame.io, which was a great way to consolidate all of the team’s notes and ideas. In many ways, it was a dream project with an incredibly talented team. They don’t come around all that often!”
Editor David Tillman notes that after working with executive producer Zac Stuart-Pontier on a previous project, he was asked to help edit Season 2 of The Jinx.
“It was such a unique experience to go from an avid audience member of the first season, to one of the editors helping shape the second,” notes Tillman. “In my two years working on the project, one thing became clear very quickly – the bar was set incredibly high, and our work would be truly battle-tested from the first rough cut to the time it was locked. There were frequent ‘friends and family’ audience screenings, and numerous producers watching cuts to give feedback on our editorial work, which truly brought it to a different level. Frame.io was a review platform I had used on previous projects, but our work on The Jinx: Part Two made Frame.io a central hub of communication to give feedback, brainstorm ideas, weigh in on notes and give marching orders. It gave our remote workflow a kind of home base in the cloud that was invaluable.”
In addition to Frame.io for collaboration, the editing team used Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to complete the project.
The Jinx – Part Two is currently streaming on Max.
