Sound Lounge seeing growth in long-form work

NEW YORK CITY — The film & television division at Sound Lounge (https://soundlounge.com) recently mixed Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room and the second season of FX’s hit show The Bear.

A limited series, The Crowded Room is an American psychological thriller that follows the story of lead character Danny Sullivan’s arrest following his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979. The show stars Tom Holland, Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum, and the audience sees the story unfold through a series of interviews. Sound Lounge’s sound design is focused on creating a nuanced and emotionally-engaging soundscape that reflects the retrospective aspect of the show.

“Working with a cast of this caliber, and seeing the show receive so much early buzz and attention, even before its premiere, has been an incredibly-rewarding experience,” says Steve “Major” Giammaria, supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer. “I wanted to ensure we were able to play into the themes of fear, paranoia and manipulation that come with working on a psychological thriller, and we were able to piece everything together well.”

The Bear’s first season saw the studio win an MPSE Award for Outstanding Sound Editing, as well as receive a CAS Award nomination for Outstanding Mixing. The show centers on a young chef from the fine dining world, who returns to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a death in his family. The half-hour series stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri, and features a soundtrack that reflects the noise both inside and out of the kitchen.

“Having the opportunity to elevate the show to new heights for Season 2 is a testament to the nuanced details incorporated in the work we put into the first season,” explains Giammaria. “We’re honored to be a part of this team and had a lot of fun making the second season. I hope the audience is able to enjoy it as much as we did.”
