RealityScan now lets Android users create 3D models

CARY, NC — Epic Games (www.epicgames.com) and Capturing Reality have released the RealityScan app for Android devices, a free photogrammetry app that lets users create high-fidelity 3D models of objects by taking photos with their Android device. Models can then be exported to Sketchfab to share, or downloaded for use in other applications, such as Unreal Engine or Twinmotion.

Exporting models to Sketchfab is free. The number of models that user can upload to their Sketchfab account per month depends on their Sketchfab plan (https://sketchfab.com), though customers are automatically upgraded to Sketchfab Pro for free for one year upon their first upload.

Since RealityScan was released as an iOS app last year, there have been 200,000 downloads and many thousands of models created by the community and uploaded to Sketchfab. The latest release offers a streamlined user interface and more intuitive workflows.

A new step-based workflow takes users through the scanning process. There is the ability to back up through the steps if needed to make changes. Users can easily find and delete unconnected images from the Project Library, and optionally add new ones to replace them. A preview of the final model can be viewed as it will look in Sketchfab from the Project Library, thanks to an embedded Sketchfab viewer. And users can add and edit a name and description for the project, which will be automatically synchronized to Sketchfab.

RealityScan requires an Android phone or tablet that supports ARCore, or an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 and later.
