LOS ANGELES — Zelma Stone recently released Be The One, a new music video for a song that came to the artist in a dream.
“I wrote this song through a stream of consciousness after waking up to a melody that came to me in a dream,” says Stone (aka Chloe Zelma Studebaker). “I got up immediately and recorded the full demo within a couple hours. I’ve never written a song that fast before…The chorus, ‘I’m here and ready for love’ became my mantra and served me well as I made the move down to LA [from San Francisco] last year.”
The video, which was shot entirely on film, was directed, edited and colored by Alex Justice (alexjustice.com).
“I wanted the video to feel raw and in the moment, so we decided to shoot on a Bolex 16mm and allow for the shot list to be just a guideline,” Justice explains. “The edit helped bring the video together as a montage and focused on keeping the structure, feeling and color as natural as possible.”
Justice shot on Kodak 250D and 200T film stocks, which were processed and scanned by Spectra in North Hollywood. She edited the piece in Adobe Premiere and then used Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve for the color grade.
