NEW YORK CITY — Comedy editor Ryan Spears has signed with bicoastal edit house The Den (thedeneditorial.com) for commercial representation. His credits range from commercials to short films, and his years of work as an editor on Saturday Night Live earned him an Emmy nomination.
At SNL, Spears cut pre-taped sketches that include the Big Boys music video featuring Sza, as well as parodies like Murder Durdur, American Girl Doll Trailer and HBO Mario Kart. He’s also shown off his more complex editing skills on SNL’s recurring Tik Tok sketches and shorts for the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy. Outside of SNL, he has served as an editor for shows such as Teenage Euthanasia on Adult Swim, The Amber Ruffin Show, Season 5 of Inside Amy Schumer and The Rundown with Robin Thede. Commercially, Spears has cut spots for Netflix, Intel, Daring, Athletic Greens, Smile Direct Club, Kate Spade, and The New York Rangers.
“I love everything they do,” Spears says of The Den. “It all feels very cinematic, intentional, well-crafted, and personal. They go beyond what you expect from a typical commercial. It’s such a stellar team, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with them!”
“Ryan is an amazing comedy editor,” adds Christjan Jordan, co-founder/editor at The Den. “I’m in awe of how he crafts such hilarious and memorable sketches for SNL with such crazy-fast deadlines. And he always manages to capture the latest trends and vibes in pop culture. I love that we get to bring his incredible sense of humor to The Den.”
