LOS ANGELES — Ethos (https://ethos.studio) recently welcomed colorist Cameron Marygold to their roster. With a prolific background in music as a mixing engineer for film and television, Marygold now specializes in evoking emotion through color and texture.
Marygold became interested in color grading and its parallels to audio mixing while immersed in the music industry. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he transitioned from playing guitar and drums in various bands to mixing soundtracks for TV and film, one of the most notable being the soundtrack for Crazy Rich Asians. When he transitioned to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic, he took a self-motivated deep dive into color in his free time, triggering an interest with the craft that persists to this day. Since then, Marygold has earned credits as a colorist for a diverse range of projects, including the launch film for Sza’s 2022 album SOS. Other credits include music videos for Lizzy McAlpine, and film collaborations for Tory Burch/Dazed magazine, Hypebeast/Alpha Industries and BMW/visual artist Joshua Vides. On the commercial side, he has worked on Vans’ 2022 holiday campaign, and marketing campaigns for Nike.
“Ethos is a place that has amazing energy and pushes creativity over anything else,” says Marygold. “Creative freedom is something that I try to prioritize whenever possible. On top of that, I’m joining an amazing roster with so many talented folks, and I couldn’t be more excited to call Ethos home.”
