Wednesday: VFX supervisor Kent Johnson

Netflix’s Wednesday follows The Addams Family’s Wednesday Addams during her student years at Nevermore Academy. Jenna Ortega stars in the lead role of the teen daughter, who attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree and solve a supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.

In addition to Ortego, the show stars Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Christina Ricci and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Tim Burton is both director and executive producer on the show, which spanned eight episodes in its first season.

Wednesday has received Emmy nominations for Lead Actress, Makeup, Comedy Series, Directing, Costumes, Production Design, Main Title Design, Cinematography, Music Composition and Main Title Theme Music. The show is also in the running for a Visual Effects Emmy.

"Dan May at Painting Practice helped Tim Burton and the Wednesday art department design Nevermore Academy,” explains Kent Johnson, who served as VFX supervisor for the show. “He would create a large variety of virtual drone shots around the 3D CG model and share them with the creative team using Frame.io as part of our pre-production planning. As we got deep into post production, we would share finished sequences, such as Thing in the train station with MGM and Netflix using Frame.io."
