LONDON — Adam Luckwell and Michael Elson recently launched Misc Studios (misc-studios.com), a new VFX house dedicated to high end VFX production. Based in central London’s Noho area on the northside of Oxford Street, the company’s ethos is centered around mental health, inclusivity, sustainability and an open culture (MISC).

Elson has worked at several industry leading VFX studios, including The Mill, MPC and Prime Focus, in addition to numerous production-side roles. He established the MPC film department with a team of six in 1998, building to over 650 in London and establishing their first overseas studio in Vancouver. Credits there include all the Harry Potter films, Brett Ratner’s X Men, The Last Stand, Tim Burton’s remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Danny Boyle’s Sunshine.
Luckwell has been working in VFX since establishing and building advertising post house Unit in July of 2010.
Misc has plans to grow to 200 in London and expand to a similar size internationally. The studio is currently working on The Rig (Amazon Studios), Trapper Keeper (LucasFilm), and Disney+’s Nautilus. They recently completed work on Men (DNA/Alex Garland), No One Gets Out Alive (Imaginarium/Netflix), Winx Saga (Netflix) and Black Narcissus (DNA/BBC).
