DALLAS — Ugly Dolls, the new animated feature from STS Films, opens in theaters on May 3rd. The film’s soundtrack includes the song “Broken & Beautiful” — performed by Kelly Clarkson — which recently debuted as the movie’s official music video.
Clarkson voices UglyDoll Moxy in the film, who turns up in the music video as a fan looking to get backstage for the singer’s live performance. The video shows Clarkson getting ready for a show, with her daughter River Rose close by. And while the security guard is left breathless trying to chase Moxie down, Clarkson and her daughter are charmed by Moxy’s excitement.
Hound produced the music video, with Jay Martin directing. The project is a partnership between Atlantic Records and STX Films. Atk Pln (atkpln.com) provided the animation for the cameo appearances of the Ugly Dolls characters in the live action video. The studio worked closely with Reel FX, its sister company that animated the feature film.
Atk Pln credits include senior producer Samantha Daniel; associate CG supervisor Jeff Masters; lighting/compositing artists Lyn Caudle, Shannon Thomas & Michael Zollinger; modeler Daniel Ries; and technical supervisor Jon Speer. The studio used Autodesk Maya 2018 for modeling and animation, which was rendered using Arnold. Nuke was used for compositing. The music video was edited in Adobe Premiere.
Ingenuity Studios handled crowd and confetti effects and Co3 gave it its color treatment.
