LOS ANGELES — Electric Theatre Collective (http://electrictheatre.tv) provided VFX and color services for a new Levi’s spot that urges citizens to vote in the upcoming November elections. The Use Your Vote spot was conceived by FCB West and features people from around the world unified by one common theme: casting their ballots and participating in their right to stand up and advocate for what they care about.
The campaign kicked off with a national television commercial directed by Benito Montorio of Pulse Films. Varied hues of life are represented in the spot, which follows people around the world on their journey on voting day. Aretha Franklin’s “Think” serves as the soundtrack.
The spot was shot using an Arri Alexa and anamorphic lenses. Electric Theatre Collective’s VFX team used Flame to add drama to the visuals, which runs the gamut of moods, from brooding to triumphant.
Working on FilmLight’s Baselight system, colorist Jason Wallis composed a filmic palette to pair with the emotional tone of the narrative. Grading is on the darker edge of the scale and required a delicate approach to ensure that viewers could clearly see the imagery and connect to the characters, their expressions and background details.
The :30 spot was edited by Leo Scott at Cartel, with Dan Gutterman assisting. Lime Studios’ engineer Loren Silber handled audio post.
