LOS ANGELES — The Academy will present its 4th annual Careers in Film Summit this Saturday, October 6th, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The day-long event will provide high school and college students the opportunity to learn about careers in the motion picture industry from Academy governors and members, Oscar-winning and nominated filmmakers, and other industry professionals.
The summit will feature such panelists as director Peyton Reed (Ant-Man and the Wasp), producer Nina Jacobson (Crazy Rich Asians), Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison (Mudbound), Oscar-nominated composer Mark Isham (A River Runs Through It) and singer-songwriter Goapele (#WhereIsBeauty). The summit’s five panel discussions also will be live-streamed on Oscars.org.
The panelists, whose areas of expertise include directing, composing, sound, editing, cinematography, costume design, and animation, will offer students firsthand knowledge of working in the industry and identify essential skills for their respective careers. Some sessions also will incorporate film clips and Q&As with students.
For the first time, the Academy will present a Careers in Film Summit in Atlanta, on November 3rd at the SCADshow theater, in partnership with re:imagine/ATL, Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta (SCAD), DeKalb Entertainment Commission, African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) and Saunders Lockliear Entertainment (SLE).
A London-based Careers in Film Summit is scheduled for November 12th at BFI Southbank, in partnership with Into Film. The Academy also is planning a summit in New York City in April 2019.
Tickets for the Los Angeles event are free, but must be reserved in advance (www.oscars.org).
