LOS ANGELES — It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia returned to FXX in early January and Ring of Fire (www.ringoffire.com), here, helped take the gang to places they had never gone before for the show’s 11th season. From creating an 'attack bird' to taking out the opposing attorney in the Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Day Massacre trial, to exploding Danny Devito’s head in a drug induced haze, this season makes use of numerous visual effects.
“Once again, as they do every season, Rob, Glenn, Charlie and the writers attempt to raise the bar with visual effects and storytelling,” says EP/VFX supervisor John myers. “The show has come a long way since the early days of doing a handful of visual effects shot on a consumer VHS camcorder. We have actual VFX planning meetings now and shoot in HD!”
CG, design and composting were performed by Ring of Fire VFX in nine of this season’s 10 episodes.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was created by Rob McElhenney, developed with Glenn Howerton and is executive produced and primarily written by McElhenney, Howerton and Charlie Day, all of whom star in the series, along with Kaitlin Olson and Danny Devito. The series follows the exploits of “the gang,” a group of self-centered friends who run the Irish bar Paddy’s Pub in South Philly.
