Grass Valley to release Edius update in October

AMSTERDAM — At the IBC show (September 11-15), Montreal-based Grass Valley (www.grassvalley.com) is previewing Version 8.1 of its Edius editing platform. The update continues to focus on video editing performance, allowing users to edit anywhere and get stories to air quickly. The upcoming release will offer improved integration with third-party plug-ins.

Version 8.1 will offer Windows 10 support; OpenFX gasket integration with Boris Continuum Complete, HitFilm and Sapphire plugins; and optimized playback for both DNxHD and ProRes codecs, allowing users to handle more layers in realtime.  Enhancements to the browser include bin registration of the catalog, relinking offline clips, thumbnail snapshot to quickly export still images, and Red support. In response to customer feedback, Edius 8.1 also will offer the ability to save a current project as a template and improvements to the GUI, including color tones and contrast.

For Workgroup users, additional feature improvements include collaboration with Fairlight for new Pyxis editing and mixing controllers, as well as the ability to edit a growing 4K file on a K2 server. Integration with GV Stratus takes video production to new levels of productivity, with an advanced proxy workflow breaking down the bandwidth wall between the news station and the field.

Edius 8.1 will be available as a free upgrade for all Version 8 users in October.
