CULVER CITY, CA — Sony Pictures Animation (www.sonypicturesanimation.com) has announced the cast of its upcoming computer-animated film, Get Smurfy. Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson and Mandy Patinkin will all lend their voice talents to the fully computer-animated feature, which will hit theatres in March of 2017.
The CG film is expected to have a look reminiscent of Smurfs creator Peyo Culliford's original style. Platinum-selling recording artist Demi Lovato has signed on to voice Smurfette. Emmy-nominated comic actor Rainn Wilson (The Office, Monsters vs. Aliens) will fill the evil shoes of the Smurf nemesis, Gargamel. Papa Smurf will be played by Emmy winner Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride, Homeland).
Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2, Gnomeo & Juliet) will direct the feature, which is being produced by Jordan Kerner (Charlotte's Web, The Smurfs) and co-produced by Mary Ellen Bauder (Hotel Transylvania).
The Smurfs films have grossed more than $900M for Columbia Pictures globally. "The continued popularity of the Smurfs is unmistakable, and this new outing will return them to the fully-animated world that launched them," says Asbury.
