Dolby & AMC accelerate cinema initiative

BURBANK, CA — On Monday, Dolby (www.dolby.com) and AMC unveiled the new Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime in Burbank, CA, which is now fully equipped with a signature entrance and a dynamic A/V pathway that provides a new canvas for studio creatives to begin telling their story before the show begins. The pathway was revealed with images of space and the Mars landscape, themed specifically for The Martian, which opened last weekend at Dolby Cinema locations. Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime is a premium cinema offering that combines high-end image and sound technologies with innovative seating and comfort.

Regarding the previously announced plan to install up to 100 “Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime” locations by 2024, AMC announced that near term installation plans have been moved up. John McDonald, executive VP of operations at AMC, and the chairman of the NATO Technology Committee revealed news that, “Eight Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime theatres have been open, with four under construction and the original plan for 50 sites over four years has now been accelerated to complete 50 in first two years."

In just over six months, 10 Dolby Cinema locations have opened across the globe and 13 Dolby Cinema movies — mastered in Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision — from all the major Hollywood studios have been announced or released, including upcoming movies Pan, Mocking Jay-Part 2 and In the Heart of the Sea.
