NEW YORK — Editorial company Cut + Run (http://cutandrun.com), here, recently completed work on a branded short that celebrates the people who wear Converse All-Star sneakers. Made By You is a two-minute online video that features Chuck Taylor fans in different cities around the globe — old, young, artistic, sloppy, nerdy and famous — describing themselves in just a single sentence, all while sporting their Chucks.
To craft the story, directors We Are From LA shot in London, Los Angeles and Shanghai. From a wealth of footage and audio interviews, Cut+ Run editor Sam Ostrove pieced together inspirational stories and philosophies that connect with the “Made By You” concept.
“Everyone on the team wanted this to feel bold but not preachy,” explains Ostrove. "We wanted to create something that gave insight into real Converse wearers, with a certain rhythm and energy that represented the sort of people who wear Chucks — from metalheads in London, to street artists in Los Angeles (the legendary graffiti artist Futura is featured in the spot), to tattooists in China and even psychedelic garage rock star King Tuff. These people all opened up for something like Converse, and many stories made us laugh as well as cry. It really shows the imprint Converse has had on such a wide range of people.”
Music by Sebastian provided a perfect cross-genre soundtrack that enabled Ostrove to cut in and out the interviews.
Agency Anomaly conceived the project and Iconoclast produced it. Ostrove cut the video in an Avid, and was assisted on the edit by Ryan Harrington. The Mill handled color correction, with Mikey Rossiter serving as colorist. Tom Goldblatt at Audio Engine handled the mix, with Cathleen Conte assisting. Cut + Run’s Joseph Grosso provided VFX.
