LOS ANGELES — Picturemill (www.picturemill.com) recently collaborated with ABC to create the signature show open for Jimmy Kimmel Live! for its residency in Austin, TX. To capture the flavor of the city, street scenes and iconic Austin imagery were integrated into a high energy open that combines live action and design elements.
Working with show director Andy Fisher and show producer Tony Romero, the Picturemill’s team, lead by creative director William Lebeda and lifestyle director David Midgen, traveled to Austin to capture some of the city’s most distinctive locations. This included imagery of Sixth Street, the Capitol Building, the Bat Bridge, and the Stevie Ray Vaughan Statue. Back in LA, the team added texture, animation and typography throughout the live action footage. The modular open was designed for flexible programming updates and was delivered with additional material to be used as a palette for bumpers and interstitials.
Picturemill’s David Midgen used Final Cut Pro for the edit. Autodesk Maya and Maxon Cinema 4D were used to create 3D elements. Compositing was performed using Adobe After Effects. Jonathan Wolfe handled the finishing for the project, which marks the second show open collaboration between Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Picturemill.
