BURBANK, CA — NewTek’s LightWave 3D Group is running a special promotion that it hopes will get animators to switch their base applications. The $695 “crossgrade” provides a full license of LightWave 11.6 software to current owners of other 2D and 3D software programs, including Maya, 3DS Max, Softimage, Houdini, Cinema 4D, Modo, Unity, Zbrush, Photoshop, After Effects and Flash. The special represents a savings of $800 over LightWave’s current $1,495 retail price.

LightWave 3D allows artists to model, animate, capture, retarget, render, and input and output to 3D. The application’s Viewport Preview Renderer provides interactive shading, raytracing, DOF, motion blur, lighting and GI. Artists can test drive the software by downloading a full-feature 30-day trial version.
