NASHVILLE — Filmworkers (www.filmworkers.com), here, provided a range of post services, including editorial and color grading, for Faith Hill’s new music video, American Heart. The video features the country singer, who performs a dance duet with 10-year-old sensation T.J. Jones. The release is the first from Hill’s upcoming album of the same name.
Filmworkers’ Adam Little cut the video on an Avid, while colorist Jimmy Cadenas simultaneously performed color grading, giving the video a rich and playful all-American look. The duo of Hill and Jones performed in front of a giant American flag featuring flashing colored lights. In addition, a large projection screen is also positioned behind the performers, displaying American cities, people and icons.
The project was directed by Trey Fanjoy and continues an ongoing collaboration with Little, who has cut more than 100 of his videos to date. “I love working with the motion of dancers, highlighting the best parts,” Little says. “That made the edit fun. I wanted to show the interplay between Faith and the boy; they had a great relationship.”
While Little and Fanjoy refined the cut, Baselight colorist Cadenas colored scenes in an adjacent grading suite. “Our overall objective was to make it look patriotic and beautiful,” he observes, adding that he also spent a lot of time drawing out the details in the illuminated flag and projected imagery seen in the background. “The video was shot with an Arri Alexa, which meant that the imagery gave me all the latitude I needed,” notes Cadenas. “I could bring down the detail when I needed to, or let it fly off the charts.”
