READING, UK — Snell (www.snellgroup.com), the manufacturer of numerous tools for restoration and format conversion, recently organized a sponsored bicycle ride to aid Cancer Research UK. The event took place June 10-11 and challenged Snell employees with completing a 160-mile course that connected the company's three UK sites in Havant, Reading, and Saffron Walden.
With each mile they rode, the participants earned money for Cancer Research UK through donations made to Snell's charitable Website (www.justgiving.com/Snell-Ltd).
The cycling event started on the evening of June 9 with a barbecue for all participants and Snell staff members. The first leg of the ride covered the 60 miles from Havant to Reading. The next day’s second leg completed the additional 100 miles from Saffron Walden to Reading. A victory barbecue was held that evening for participants and supporters.
Snell covered all expenses for cyclists, including accommodations and logistics, as well as any costs incurred by friends and family of employees who participated. The company’s goal was to raise £5,000 for Cancer Research UK, which the employees voted to support throughout 2011. To date, they have raised more than £6,100. Several Snell business partners are also sponsored the ride, including Avnet Memec, Cedar Technologies, Gennum, Leading Light Technologies Ltd., Lojixx Technologies Ltd., Mindspeed Technologies, and tv-bay magazine.
