SONY PICTURES OPENS 'COLORWORKS' D.I. FACILITY

Colorworks adds to Sony Pictures Studios’ existing list of services, which include sound editorial, stock footage and visual effects. The new DI facility will serve Sony Pictures’ and other clients’ projects beginning immediately. The center has already contributed to Sony’s own projects, including Michael Jackson’s This is It, Zombieland and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in 3D.

The new DI center houses nearly 3.5 petabytes of storage and its digital, file-based workflow leads the studio’s development of a digital production and distribution infrastructure called the Digital Backbone. Colorworks will feature a total of seven FilmLight Baselight color grading systems, all of which will be connected to the  Digital Backbone. The FilmLight purchase includes three Baselight Eight systems, which have already been installed, along with two Baselight Fours for use in suites designed primarily for TV projects. Two Baselight Assists will be used for pre-grading and other prep work.
