DIGISCOPE COMPLETES 300 FX FOR 'PUSH'

UK-based Peerless Camera Company produced an additional 100 effects shots for the film.

Digiscope worked directly with McGuigan and the film's VFX supervisor Kent Houston to create the FX shots. According to in-house supervisor Dion Hatch, the studio was challenged with creating the telekinetic "mover" effect, ultimately combining 2D and 3D to create a chromatic energy burst combined with a subtle ripple effect.

Another challenge was designing and building a 60-story skyscraper that would appear in the middle of downtown Hong Kong. The top of the building was designed to match the set where the final big fight scene happens.

The studio used Autodesk Maya and Softimage|XSI, running on Fedora Core 5 64-bit and WinXP64 Dual Quad-core boxes, for 3D modeling and fluid simulations. For all 3D camera tracking, Digiscope relied on Anderson Technology's SynthEyes.

Compositing was performed using Autodesk Flame 2009 and Inferno, running on Red Hat 64bit Linux HP  9400, Dual Core workstations. Apple Shake 4.1 and Adobe After Effects, running on OSX 10.5 Mac Pro Quad-core Intel Xeon boxes, were also used for compositing. Matador and Combustion were used for paint work.
