SONIC UNION LAUNCH BRINGS TOGETHER VETERAN MIXERS
Michael Marinelli, formerly of Buzz/NY, and Steve Rosen, formerly of HSR/NY, are lead mixers at the new, independently operated audio facility. Marinelli has built a career on high-profile advertising work. He's worked with GE, mixing almost all of their commercials for several years, including the 2008 Olympics spots Dragon, Discus and Crane out of BBDO, NY. Other spot clients include AT&T, Bank of America, Bud Light, Ford, M&Ms, New Balance, NHL and Quiznos. One of his personal favorites is a 1995 Super Bowl spot for Pepsi in which a boy gets sucked into a soda bottle.
Rosen is also popular with agencies, having lent his talents to projects for Ikea, Monster.com, UPS, The Kaiser Foundation, Comedy Central and the United Nations, to name a few. Most recently, he worked closely with McCann Erickson on a Verizon project that helped establish the "It's the Network" and "This is FiOS, This is Big" campaigns.
Adam Barone is managing director at the new venture. He worked with Marinelli during his time at Buzz, and for Sonic Union oversaw the architectural build out by noted NYC architect Raya Ani. Acoustician Richard Alderson also collaborated closely with the team.
The studio is home to five mixing suites and a multi-functional finishing room. Each of the mixing suites has a Digidesign Pro Tools|HD3 system running on a Mac Pro Quad-Core computer, a Blue Sky 5.1 surround monitoring system, a Euphonix control surface and a VO booth. Soundminer's disk-based music and sound effects library is also on-hand.
On the video side, Sonic Union has HD/SD finishing capabilities, Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects and an HD D-5 deck.
