POST LOGIC COMPLETES DI FOR HBO'S 'TAKING CHANCE'
Directed and executive produced by Ross Katz, and shot by cinematographer Alar Kivilo, Taking Chance is the true story of Marine Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl, who volunteered to accompany the body of a soldier killed in Iraq back to his hometown.
Post Logic Studios performed the DI for the project, including film scanning, color correction, final conform and film out. Colorist Lou Levinson worked closely with the director and cinematographer to maintain the range of looks sought by the production team.
The feature was shot on 35mm film and takes place in varied locations with a range of lighting conditions. Cinematographer Kivilo avoided relying on one overall look and instead allowed each location to achieve its own feel.
"This was a DI exactly as it should be," notes Post Logic colorist Levinson. "Alar shot a beautiful movie, and it was our job to provide the polish-directing attention with a little bit of grab, darkening or lightening. Instead of struggling to achieve a particular look, it was already there, which makes the DI much more transparent looking."
In related news, Post Logic also worked with HBO on Kitt Kittridge: American Girl, completing the title sequence and DI for the film.
