NVISION'S BIRNEY DAYTON PRESENTED WITH SMPTE PROGRESS MEDAL

He played a key role in the SMPTE standards committees, including the development of standards for HDTV and also chaired the ACATS Systems Subcommittee Working Party 1 during the development of the ATSC standard.

The 2008 Honors & Awards Ceremony and Reception took place on the closing night of the SMPTE 2008 conference and trade show. Since 1934, SMPTE has honored a handful of industry professionals each year who have significantly advanced the entertainment technology. Dayton joins the ranks of previous Medal recipients Walt Disney (1940, motion picture photography and sound recording of feature and short cartoon films), Vladimir K. Zworykin (1950, developer of television), and Ray M. Dolby (1983, theater sound and continuing work in noise reduction and quality improvements in audio and video systems).

A pioneer of HDTV, Dayton founded Nvision (www.nvision.tv) in 1989. Under his direction, the company developed several award winning innovations used in the film and television industries, including synchronous AES routing; intelligent machine control routing; high-performance large-scale HD-SDI routing; redundant crosspoint routing; and fully integrated master control and routing.
