Led by Wayne Desmond, Sony’s national training manager for
professional media, the seminars will focus on two topics: “Sony HD Media in
Perspective” and “How to Protect Your Digital Assets.”
Seminar one provides an overview of the professional HD
formats and media currently used in broadcast production and digital
cinematography, including HDV, XDCAM HD, HDCAM, and HDCAM SR, as well as DVCPRO
HD and D-5. The seminar will also cover continuing advancements in
microprocessors, which have resulted in compression that’s virtually impossible
to discern when compared to an uncompressed source.
Seminar two complements the first by providing an overview
of the similarities and differences between film and magnetic media. Desmond
will present guidelines on the care and handling of media, and will share data
that’s based Sony’s sale of more than 230 million half-inch cassettes.
