The Mudbox toolkit integrates seamlessly with applications
such as Autodesk Maya and Softimage|XSI. In addition to having a
user-friendly interface, the application offers 3D layering capabilities and
non-destructive sculpting capabilities. Layers can also be blended using sliders
and layer masks. Innovative level streaming technology and local subdivision
allows for an increase of mesh resolution limits, even on ordinary 32-bit
machines. And a true 3D camera delivers perspective and orthographic views.
Additional features include "Tangent Space"
symmetry, enabling symmetrical sculpting on asymmetrical models; fast,
high-quality 3D brushes, including the Mudbox Scratch brush, which enables
artists to sculpt sharp forms on dense models at any speed without blobby
stamping; and high quality texture baking for generating normal and
displacement maps between multiple arbitrary meshes.
The purchase price of Mudbox Professional starts at US $649.
Floating (network) seats and Gold Support options are also available. A
non-commercial version, dubbed Mudbox Basic, is available for $299. The trial
version offers all the capabilities of the professional version and can be
downloaded atwww.mudbox3d.com/downloadTrial.html.
