The futuristic episode takes place before Tek becomes a
galactic hero, when he's just a bumbling kid who's never had a girlfriend. A
series of events leads him to acquire an important nano fiche from an Alpha
Squad Agent, placing the fate of the universe in his inexperienced hands.
Flickerlab founder/creative director Harold Moss, describes
the tone of the animation as serious and deadpan, with a look that harkens back
to that of popular 1970s cartoons.
The studio used Adobe Creative Suite CS3 on the animation,
along with Apple Final Cut Studio 2, Panic Transmit software, Apple PowerMac G5
and iMac Intel computers; Dell Ultrasharp 24-inch widescreen displays, Apple
displays; AJA's Kona 2 cards and a Sony Digi Beta deck. Wacom Intuos 3 and
Cintiq tablets were also used.
The FlickerLab team included EP Tammy Walters; animation director Phil
Lockerby; lead designer Max Porter and character designers Nick Bertonazzi and
Simon Ampel. Sound designer was performed in-house.
