The studio opened in the summer of 2003 and pairs the father
and son team of Mike Levesque Sr. and Jr. Senior has been composing, producing
and creating sound design since the early '70s. In 1975 he opened Nutmeg Music,
a multi-room audio house in NYC. Mike Jr. joined his father there in 1994, but
his career path led him to Photomag Sound in 2001, where he worked alongside
numerous veteran mixers. In 2003, following the closure of the Tapehouse
Companies, which included Photomag, the father and son team reunited again to
open Nomad Post.
Nomad features two identical audio suites base around
Digidesign Pro Tools and Yamaha's DM2000VCM digital audio consoles. The rooms
are also outfitted with Avalon mic pre amps, Genelec 5.1 surround monitors,
Dolby E Processors, Sony DATs, TASCAM DA-98 recorders, and Sennheiser and
Neumann microphones.
Levesque Jr. got his start working with Yamaha's DMC1000
over a decade ago and appreciates the benefits of digital boards. "The feature
which I find most useful is the flawless user interface with Pro Tools. The
routing flexibility is awesome, the 5.1 monitoring makes the console a breeze
to use, not to mention that it sounds great."
In addition to the Speed Channel and Mercedes work, Nomad
has worked on projects for Lowe's, Verizon, MTV and BET. The studio also
handled the 5.1 mix for the last two Pixies DVD releases and the 5.1 mix for
Elvis Costello's Live in Memphis DVD.
