Alter Ego is housed in a 5,000 square foot facility. Key
components of its workflow include FilmLight's Northlight 2 scanner, two
Baselight Four nonlinear color graders and the Truelight color management
system. One of Alter Ego's color grading suites will be dedicated to
advertising work, while the other suite will be set up for dual-purpose
advertising and DI film work, with CRT monitors or a digital projection screen
available.
The studio's staff includes executive VP Michael Lambermont,
formerly with Stealing Time, as well as colorist Andrew Exworth, formerly with
Technicolor, Toronto. Flame artist Mike Morey also comes to the studio from
Stealing Time, while VP of sales Cathy MacMillan joins Alter Ego from VFX house
DAVE. Also on board is Eric Whipp, formerly with Australian animation studio
Animal Logic, where he performed DI color grading for the features Happy
Feet.
The Baselight Four systems acquired by Alter Ego feature a
multi-node architecture that accelerates all of the features of a standard
Baselight system by a factor of four. The systems are resolution independent
and capable of grading HD and 2K imagery in realtime.
