"We planned to open a 5.1 surround suite when we moved to this space in March 2005," explains Vidiots' Michael Amoia, who co-owns the studio with his brother Anthony. "It's a logical extension of our under-one-roof services. Now clients who take advantage of our Avid editorial, graphic design and animation capabilities can fill their audio post needs in our Pro Tools HD room."
The new suite is equipped with a Pro Tools|HD 3 system with Digidesign's Control 24 surface and Genelec 5.1 speakers. Pro Tools is linked to the company's Avid Unity media storage, enabling the audio suite to immediately call up cuts from the Avid rooms. A 45-inch Sharp LCD flatscreen HD monitor provides picture.
The suite also incorporates a voiceover/ISO booth that can accommodate three. The booth features a Neumann TLM103 mic. The studio also features an ISDN line for realtime feeds.
Chris Harmony of Technical Structures designed and built the Pro Tools suite and Doug Oberkircher, formerly with The Hit Factory, helped wire and balance out the new room.
