The show’s open was designed to reflect Emily’s busy world, one that’s taken over by work and dating dilemmas. It also quickly introduces the show’s cast of supporting characters.
TwinArt’s Ellen Kahn decided to use a manuscript on a messy desk as the environment for the open. Expressive photos of Graham’s quirky character pop up throughout, along with editing doodles, which are used as a graphic elements. The 2D sequence was executed using Adobe After Effects running on a Mac G5 and plays to the Macy Gray track “Why Not Why.”
Vivian Cannon, executive producer for Emily’s Reasons Why Not, says, “TwinArt figured out how to tell the story of the show in 20 seconds.”
“It was a creative challenge to visually tell the story of Emily and work five characters into a :20 open,” adds Kahn. “Heather Graham’s personality and expressions light up the screen. It was delightful to work with her image.”
