The new systems are running on 64-bit Linux workstations and
complement Filmworkers' recently acquired Spirit 2K Datacines, helping to form
a completely tapeless data workflow.
According to company president, Reid Brody, the purchases were made to meet
increased demand from clients looking for high resolution post services. They
will help the studio keep clients that might have gone out of town for such
services.
The new Linux-based systems are capable of processing data anywhere from five
to 20 times faster than earlier SGI workstations the applications ran on.
Additionally, data files can be moved between systems at speeds up to eight
times faster. Creative tools are also enhanced for improved rotoscoping, paint
and animation. Compatibility with Avid and final Cut Pro NLEs has also been
improved as well.
