The two-part "Costume" commercial was conceived by Leo Burnett, Chicago and like two previous spots - "Time to Go" and "Showtime" - features apple and cinnamon characters vying for position to be the first to reach the taste buds of cereal eaters.
While Bad Apple does his best to stop the dreadlock-sporting Cinna-mon - in this case, creating a Cinna-mon costume to impersonate the flavor - something always seems to go wrong.
Loose Moose shot the spot stop-motion on 35mm film. The characters and sets were created by London's Artem. Loose Moose also created the CG backgrounds using Alias Maya. Film was scanned, digitized and given to Edgeworx as a series of DPX files for de-rigging, handled using Adobe After Effects. Using dailies from the shoot, the backgrounds were tracked with 2D3's Boujou Bullet software. Camera moves were then replicated in Maya. Edgeworx used After Effects for compositing and then finished the graded image sequence.
John Shearlock and Dave Loh were animators in the project. Bruce Hancock at Edgeworx handled compositing and finishing.
