NEW YORK - The Ink Tank completed created the animation for Bonfire Films of America's Gigantic (A Tale of Two Johns). The documentary chronicles the lives of the pop group They Might Be Giants through interviews, live performance and animation.
The Ink Tank (www.inktank.net) made two interstitials, which serve as preambles to sections of the film. One prefaces an episode related to coffee in which "Drinky Crow" (a character from Tony Millionare's comic strip Maakies) wobbles down the gangplank of a gunship while drinking a cup of coffee and then introduces the segment. The pictures were hand drawn and then composited in Adobe's After Effects.
The second piece is based on audio taken from a message left on the answering machine of They Might Be Giants. The animation was put together using Macromedia Flash.
