STUDIO CITY, CA — The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) and the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) will host the ‘MPSE & CAS Annual Golf and Poker Tournament’ on Sunday, October 14th at Angeles National Golf Club in Sunland, CA. Proceeds will benefit the MPSE’s Ethel Crutcher Scholarship Fund, which provides mentoring and support for student sound artists, as well as the two organizations’ work in promoting the craft of entertainment sound.
Cinema Audio Society president Mark Ulano will serve as honorary chairman of the event. Ulano is an Academy Award-winning production sound mixer with more than 130 film and television credits, including Inglourious Basterds, Hateful Eight, Iron Man and Super 8. He won an Oscar for Sound Mixing for Titanic, which also brought him a Cinema Audio Society Award. He is the recipient of three additional CAS Award nominations and three BAFTA Award nominations.
Event activities will include scramble-style golf and poker tournaments with trophies and prizes for first-, second- and third-place finishers. The golf tournament will feature a hole-in-one contest with a $10,000 prize and a putting contest with a $5,000 prize. Other games and surprises will occur throughout the day. The event will climax with a raffle and awards dinner. The MPSE will also inaugurate its annual membership drive at the event.
“Every year, our golf tournament is more popular, and we are expecting this to be our best event yet,” says MPSE president Tom McCarthy. “This tournament provides a wonderful opportunity for the sound community to have fun and compete with old friends and colleagues, while benefitting an important cause, the MPSE’s Ethel Crutcher Scholarship Fund.”
